Act I

Fabio, downstage facing the audience, looks at Conchata, upstage, by way of his hand mirror. The mirror reflects an offstage light source into her eyes. She squints and tries to avoid it, but Fabio keeps it trained on her to preserve face to face contact. She compromises by facing the light but averting her eyes, fanning herself.

FABIO
Am I finished?

CONCHATA
Almost!

She stops fanning herself and folds everything down like a sophisticated origami construction into a little boxy shape. She pops it into a day runner the size of a clutch purse and zips the portfolio closed with a flourish.

Now I feel much better!
