Part 1: The Pretty Girl Agency

Steve: I didn't find any of the sex footage, which is all pretty much simulated (from the point of view of what qualifies as pornographic activity nowadays), all that shocking. Though I'll admit shaved pubic hair on women is still kind of rare in non-X (unrated or whatever) films with strong sexual content. There also seems to be a laissez-faire attitude about sexual orientation in the plot. Had you intended a political statement with how you presented bi or homosexuality, or was the intention comedic throughout?

Howard: We began shooting with me doing the camera work and determining the angles etc. and Benveniste directing the actors. When it came to sex scenes I directed the actors as well. Although you don't see much sex in the version that was released, there was a fair amount shot. All the orgies on the castle floor were real. Flesh's scene with Amora was real and the orgy at Prince Precious' gay kingdom was real. The live action came off relatively effortless. Candy Samples and most of the erotic actors and actresses were supplied to me by "The Pretty Girl Agency," owned and operated by Reb Sawitz - a biker who became an agent and is still in the business.

There wasn't really anything I felt hesitant about doing when I made the film. It was shot during the "free love" era of the 70's and everything and anything was OK. The gay scenes were strictly comedic. The gay movement hadn't really made a statement yet and light parody of gays was not offensive in those politcally incorrect times. Mike Minor was openly gay as well as a few other people who worked on the film. Minor has tragically died of AIDS.
